Grand Teton National Park was first established in 1929 and then expanded in size in 1950. The Grand Teton mountains rise more than 7000 feet above the valley below which itself is at about 6400 feet. The Grand Teton mountains are unique because they are geologically very young and consequently have no surrounding foothills.
