Close look at one edge of Sawyer glacier. Notice the melt line near the bottom front face that corresponds with the tide marks on the rocks. Glaciers are frozen fresh water and the ocean is salt water which is at a higher temperature than the glacier. So a significant amount of melting occurs when the 2 meet.
