This is the North Head
Lighthouse on Cape Disappointment in the mouth of the Columbia River in
Washington. This lighthouse is operated by the US Coast Guard and uses
an automated electric light. When the lighthouse was first built in 1898
it used six kerosene burners. The small building at lower right was used
to store the kerosene and the lighthouse keeper carried it up to the
light several times during each day (and night.) |
