This is the tensioning mechanism for the tram at the top of the mountain. There are two hydraulic rams just above
the head of the guy with the pointed cap; these move the whole mechanism closer or farther away from the top tram
station. There are two large horizontal wheels (pulleys actually) in the rectangular part of the mechanism that
carry the cable that pulls the trams up and down. The trams ride on two stationary cables that are attached to the
blue turnbuckles on either side of the concrete block. |
