The top of one of the 2 triple expansion steam engines. Each red circular plate is the top of one of the engine's 3 cylinders. Triple expansion means the steam is fed from the first high pressure cylinder to 2 subsequent lower pressure cylinders, each time losing more pressure. That's why the cylinders get increasingly larger.
