Japan has the best railroad system on the planet. This is a Shinkansen, one of the 2 high-speed train lines running throughout Japan. Shinkansen's run at about 187 MPH; the cars have air suspension and the rails are all welded and set on concrete ties. There is another high-speed line that has even faster trains but those don't work with the Japan railpass so I did not ride on one of those.
