Chinese Spring is one of hundreds of hot, acidic water springs in the park. The bubbles are from escaping steam and boiling water. The colored area is a bacteria field lying under about 1 inch of water flowing over it. The bacteria fields change color based on the temperature and acidity of the water above them.
