This diagram shows how the fire control system worked.  The fire control team would calculate the proper coordinates in the Plotting Room on the right, set the numbers using the device in the previous photo, and those same numbers would be displayed for the gun crew on a set of large numbered wheels connected via a long shaft and cables.
